FAQs
Is this tutoring or therapy?
I don’t teach subject content, diagnose, or provide clinical treatment. I focus on practical real-world support in the areas of planning, organization, follow-through, communication, and life skills. I do collaborate with families and outside providers when helpful.
Who do you serve?
I work with young adults and adults aged 18+ who are capable but who are overwhelmed with the demands of student and work life.
Where do sessions take place?
We can meet in person (Portland Metro) at your residence or in the community. Online options are also a possibility.
What do you help with?
I help with a wide range of challenges, including:
Organizing schedules
Starting and finishing tasks
Communicating with professors
Managing deadlines
Daily living skills (grocery shopping, meal prep, budgeting, using public transportation, etc.)
Developing interests and making new social connections
Handling paperwork and other adult responsibilities
Preparing for employment
What does a typical session
look like?
A “typical” session looks different for everyone. Just as you are unique, our sessions will also be unique to you and your needs. This may look like:
Meeting after class to review new learning and organize notes while also looking ahead to projects and deadlines and monitoring progress on those
Working together to organize your living space and creating a clutter-free study area with embedded routines and systems
Rehearsing communication skills before meeting with instructors, peer work-groups, or social opportunities
Taking public transportation to your local grocery store and practicing budgeting skills while shopping for the upcoming week
How is this different from
college disability services?
Colleges determine eligibility based on the documentation of a disability and typical services include:
Extended testing time
Distraction-reduced testing environments
Note-taking assistance
Accessible textbooks or assistive technology
Sign language interpreters or captioning
Study skills workshops
Those services are valuable, and they focus primarily on academic access. My work focuses holistically on life skills in the real world, including the many tasks that exist outside the classroom.
This sounds interesting.
